Pregnancy Cravings

You always hear about pregnancy cravings but before you get pregnant you may think it’s a sham, I did.

“Oh it’s an easy way to eat whatever you want and your partner will go get it for you! Anytime, day or night!”

Well being pregnant comes with its perks and if you have a supportive partner, you’ll have lots of help in the food department. I don’t think I really got my first “craving” until I was four or five months pregnant. And then.. it was on. Continue reading “Pregnancy Cravings”

Finding Out The Gender

“It’s a boy, I just have that feeling. You know how right I am about these things.” I said.
Mr. Blue Eye’s nodded, “Yea you are good about that stuff.”
We were walking into the OB/GYN office to confirm what we already knew. We were having a boy.
My doctor looked at me during the routine stuff, “So what do you think?”
“We’re having a boy, I’m pretty sure.”
“Oh ok, what if it’s a girl?” She asked
“Well we have a name picked out if it’s a girl.”
“That’s a sure way to get a boy.”

Pregnancy Scare and Mastitis

I was looking at the calendar thinking, where is my period?  I was a day or two late and that is not common.  I talked to Mr. Blue Eyes and he looked at me like I had morphed into an ugly alien creature.
“There’s no way.”

“I’m late and I’m never late.”

He hesitated and looked annoyed.  See, I’m not on the pill or anything but we use the latex protection, every time.  *How is this even possible?*  I decided I was being paranoid and ignored it for another day or two.  *Where is it?!*  I checked the calendar again and rolled my eyes.

This was not happening.

Flipping a Breech Baby

At 32 weeks pregnant my OB told me my little muffin was in position. I could not be more happy. Mr. Blue Eyes and I had gone to birthing classes and I was the one who was like, “I want an all natural birth, no drugs, just raw maternal pain with a beautiful outcome”. Many of the other couples in the class with us thought I was nuts. “No epidural?!” I wanted to be able to be active during labor and the hospital I was going to did not have the ‘walking epidural’ available.

At 35 weeks pregnant I found out my baby was breech. I flipped out, I cried in the office when I found out. I called Mr. Blue Eyes and said something along the lines of “my life is over”, “I can’t believe this”, “they said she was in position just a couple weeks ago”, etc. etc. I was a basket case. That’s actually an understatement. Continue reading “Flipping a Breech Baby”

Daydreams about Getting Good Sleep

I covered some of the issues with sleep in my previous post about bladder control.  In my case, that was the second most difficult part about sleeping; the ridiculous heart burn was worse.  Other hardships arise while sleeping pregnant too, like positions that are good for you and your baby, crazy dreams, and getting out of bed. Lots of Trips to the Lady’s Room

The bladder control horror stories you hear are real.  When your baby starts gaining lots of weigh in the womb, there is limited space for your bladder and he/she will be constantly pushing on it.  You can count on peeing 15 to 30 or more times a day.  It’s one of the most annoying symptoms of having a growing human being inside you.  Continue reading “Lots of Trips to the Lady’s Room”

Making a Birth Plan

I suggest every mother to be to make a birth plan.

Sit down with your partner and talk over these key things:

-Who’s your pediatritician?

Visit local pediatricians and ask them tons of questions, if they get annoyed or roll their eyes, on to the next one.  Once you find a decent human being to be your pediatrician, you’ll feel a lot less stressed about the times ahead.  If they can’t make it to the hospital when you have your baby, the baby will be seen by the pediatrician on call at the hospital.  All records will be forwarded to your office when you go for your first visit (1 or 2 weeks after birth, typically). Spreading the News

[At this point I know I’m pregnant, but I haven’t told anyone except Kenzie.]

My sister Kenzie was texting me and calling me “When are you going to tell mom?”

~rolls eyes~ “I don’t know.”

My sister is the most understanding person ever.  Well, most of the time.  So I’m thinking, and thinking, and I want to tell people but I don’t want to tell some people.  I was only 5 weeks along and that’s too early.  So I gave it a couple of days and text my brother, and then that evening I called my mom and dad. Finding out about Pregnancy

When I found out I was pregnant, my world was over.  And how I really found out?  Unbelievable.  Let’s start from the beginning.  I was having mood swings and some depression.  I had been on the same birth control pills for three or four years.  I decided to take a break for a couple months (haha I know) and I told Mr. Blue Eyes and we took precautions.  My moods started evening out and everything was perfect.  Well obviously we had a couple of encounters that were not so precautious but I didn’t think anything about it because, that was super unlikely right?

So at the end of the month we went on vacation with my family.  Party, party, party.  We had such a great time, too great- to be honest.  While I was on vacation one day, I was so worn out I took a nap and ended up sleeping around four hours.  I was pissed.  No one woke me up for dinner!  Geez!  So I got up and Mr. Blue Eyes made me a hamburger and all was well again.  I’m not the nicest person when I’m tired anyway.  While we were on vacation we saw two rainbows.  That was insane for me.  I’d seen maybe 3 rainbows my entire life.

So we get home from vacation and there’s another rainbow!  *Something is going on!*  Unpacking my tampons was weird feeling, I just stared at them for a little while.  *Strange..  I should have gotten it while I was there.  Well, I’ll give it a day or two.*  Later, I’m sitting outside throwing the frisbee to my dog when I start thinking about that box of tampons again.  So while I’m outside I look up at the one cloud in the sky and think *Oh God, am I pregnant?*  and there was a lightning strike.  Right then, in the one cloud in the blue sky.  *What the .., I’m pregnant*  And that’s how I found out.

Of course, I bought a test the next day and took it while Mr. Blue Eyes was at work.

I wasn’t about to call him with this news so I called my sister Kenzie and balled my eyes out.  It took me about two seconds after I told Mr. Blue Eyes to become excited.  I cried and told him he was going to be a father and he had the biggest smile I had ever seen him with.  He saved my sanity, he truly is the best hubby and dad.
